starving my jar

Well obviously youve gotten different opinions....im just speaking from MY experience...i have done this with jardinis and silvers and it worked out fine....maybe you can fast it for a while and if it doesnt give in then feed it some guppies til its full then try again for a while....I prefer to just not feed it until the jar eats whatever food you are trying...ive also done this with pbass just stop feeding them feeders til they take prepared but its up to you what you wanna do...GL

well from what i heard, its best to teach them to eat pellets when young.

i think because its easier to train when at a young age also its healthier for them

I found the same with my LMB. Many complain that these fish won't accept pellets, but mine learned while young, and he is fat from pellets now.

I just do not think theres any reason to starve a baby... just give him less live and in between try pellets..if he is still a little hungary he will go for the pellets...and then you just don't feed the live anymore.. but it should be done slow over a two week time frame.. i think when you starve them at such a young age you are really taking unnessary chances.. of course things may work out for you.. but i believe in eliminating the risks rather then taking them when it comes to baby's especially... they can so easily shut down...

teach him to eat pellets. dont starve him to eat pellets. my leichardti wouldn't eat crap at first. only only only shrimp. so i fed him what he wanted. but sometimes i'd throw in aro sticks for other fish. eventually the leichardti took the sticks. now he loves them and im glad he does cuz his growth and color has increased dramatically...

teach him to eat pellets. dont starve him for them. it works. n eventually he'll take them.

IMO. feed a variety of foods at feeding. I feed a mix of cichlid gold, hikari aro sticks, superworms and crickets. IME, fish will switch favorites if given an opportunity. I gutload my crickets and SW with cichlid gold and sticks. They love them, and it makes for some plump crickets. IMO, it's actually cheaper to feed crickets/SW gutloaded on pellets. You don't need to feed the crickets as much/often as you would feeding the fish straight.

I buy them through premium crickets here: http://www.premiumcrickets.com/

I also think that feeding gutloaded crickets is a good way to ween fish off live foods. The fish get the taste of the pellets indirectly. I've had fish go from feeders to crickets to pellets this way. My 2 cents.

gutloading is a great idea wizzin. i used to do this with my smaller aro as for over a year, he would not touch pellets. i even tried the fasting technique for 2 weeks straight and still no dice. so i gutloaded shrimp with hikari pellets and he ate them without even knowing it :)

right on! I haven't had too many fish turn down crickets swimming around all over the surface of the water.

BTW. Ethnics, I like your signature ;)
