we should have a section for fish (wildlife) jobs! people can post any leads in jobs we may all love to have!

anyway...
Some of you may know that i'm a government worker. I'm always telling people to come work for the state. Though you may hear things about how bad the state budget is, that we won't get paid, we will lose our job etc, for the most part its great to work for the state.

Im not in a wildlife field, and taking a wildlife job would be a huge pay cut for me, but I have been thinking about switching over and being a game warden. Game Wardens are peace officer status, so you get the great retirement of a cop.
The cut off date for the fish and game academy was a couple weeks ago, so i will have to wait on that, but there are other fish and game jobs open.

One im considering is Fish And Wildlife Technician.
You work in fish hatcheries with trout, catfish, salmon eggs etc.
Pay is not great $2,779.00 to $3,506.00 a month, but remember state workers get a pension and not a 401K, so that is a big deal, pension is the way to go! With the pension its equivalent to about $1000 more.

If you don't have any actual job related experience, the only other requirement would be Completion of one year of college with at least six semester units in the biological sciences.
If you went to college for a year, and took two science courses, you qualify!
Age range is 18 to 65 for warden, the other jobs would be no limit!
So anyway, if you are thinking about a fish job, check it out and if you have questions about working for the state, PM me.

wait are these jobs that go to peoples houses and take there fish for being illegal and then hand out a $1000 fine over bull crap, and then mistake pacus for piranha :banhim::SaiyanSmi

The Department of Fish and Game actually has 81 vacancies

yes, the Dept has 81 vacancies, though not all will be directly involved with fish.
the other jobs will get you in, as will any other state job.
One day, i will transfer out of CA Dept Of Vet. Affairs.

yes, it may not be for everyone.
for nearly all of us its a hobby.

I used to enjoy building things and working on cars. When i had to do construction or be a paid mechanic, i hated it.
maybe if i worked in a fish job, id start to not enjoy fish, who knows.
sometimes past times should just remain past times, but with few jobs out there, and even fewer that offer any kind of retirement, working for fish and game or any other government job is something to consider.

That's more than 95% of the zoos/aquariums pay and less work/knowledge to do the job.

yes, but the cost of living is a bit higher in california, in alot of areas anyway.
but usually the cost is not so bad where all the rivers and lakes are.

I work for state government in Maine in the fisheries field. It's not all roses. Our department is going through re-organization. It's going to be real interesting here come January. There are very few openings now, and many are not going to be filled for awhile (for all State positions).
Pay is fair (wish I made $2779 a month) and we have a nice benefit package. The retirement system needs work though. Hope there is some left in it when I retire... Other than that, I love my job. Some days I can't believe I am getting paid to do what I do.
