I went to Frisco last month to visit a friend and I was practically crying when I found out that they weren't open yet. When I went to Frisco in '05 to check out an externship, I stopped by the Natural Science Center and heard that it was re-opening in '08. I would've thought they'd be open by now. :(

yea I thought it was going to be opened earlier this year but its ending up later :( Anyhoo its 47 Days till the Academy of Science will be having their Grand Opening =] Im going to be so their when it happens lol

Cool video! It brings back alot of memories from when I've been there. I thought it had already "re-opened"! Not?? As a side note I restored a 500 gallon bronze aquarium (owned by a good friend) that was in Steinhart in the very early 1900's!

That is gorgeous!!

thats a very nice tank, 2 thumbs up

Thank you for the compliment. My disposable camera didn't really do it justice. I have 2 months of full time work into that tank. It was a bottom up restoration and a whole lot of work! The left rear leg was broken and a new cast one had to be installed which involved removing the 2" plywood bottom. After the leg was installed I put the bottom back together and installed a 3 piece black Corian (like what they use for counter tops) bottom over the plywood. The bottom edging is 3/8" black plexiglass, the corner uprights and around the upper inside rim are 1/4" black plexiglass. I used 36 :WHOA: caulking gun tubes of black silicone to reseal everything and to glue down the Corian and plexi pieces. I spent two whole weeks with a power buffer just to get it descent looking.
There are only 2 known to be left in existence. It is 12' x 30" x 30" (inside tank dimensions) Empty it weighs well over 1000 pounds. This is the only one that has been restored and holds water. The other known one is in pieces. My friend would never sell it. Not to disrespect you, but you probably couldn't afford it for what he would want for it. I know I couldn't afford it.
It is still being cycled. My friend loves Uarus and will be putting 6 Uarus, 6 Chocalate Cichlids, (He has been growing them out since the ACA Convention in Sacramento, CA. in '07) 1 cool pleco (I forget the L #) , 13 synodontis ( I only remember some of them..... 2 S. Decorus, 3 S. Flavitineatus(sp?), 1 S. Angelicus, 1 5" giraffe cat, and? and? and? He had 4 huge pieces of Mopani wood to go in it soaking when I left. I power washed the heck out of them and that really cut down on the tannins being leached out into the 2 55 gallon plastic drums we had them soaking in. It is filtered by 2 Fluval FX5's with custom intake piping built into each rear corner behind the plexiglass.
It will have 4 250 watt brass pendant metal halide lights hanging over it. It has 1000#'s of medium grain natural sand/gravel in it. I don't have any more pics. His "photographer" was supposed to send me some more by e-mail, but I'm not holding my breath. I live 250 miles away from where the tank is. Enjoy.

P.S. Sorry for the hijack.
