"isn't it our job as aquarists to provide our fish with the best care" were keeping fish in aquariums and there not able to reach full grown, eat when we say its time for them to eat, dont live as long, some times not alow them to breed and mate and we chose that there tank and setting looks like. sounds alot like jail. BUT O I FORGOT you own your own lake and rivers so that makes it ok for you!

lot looking for hate, just a question. dont comment if your going to be a jerk about it thank you!

It's easy for me to be a jerk to ignorant people, so I'll make you a deal. You quit being ignorant, and I'll quit being a jerk...

Wow, i would hate to be a fish under your care...

My polleni lived till he was at least 17 yr old, seen fish grow larger than their wild counterparts, and fed much better then they would be in the wild...

So if i had to guess, you are probably the type of person who would say keeping a sturgeon in a completely bare 2ft tank for life would be adequate / enough space, since they wont live as long anyway...

You shouldnt "experiment" with living creatures

How is science going to advance with out experimenting on living creatures. I spend several years working at the Great Lake Center in Buffalo which is in charge of monitoring Erie Lake which is the gateway to the other finger lake and many experiments were done in order to reduce invasive species in the lake such as Zebra mussels. Allesandro Volta invented the battery while conducting research on frogs. The majority of medicine was developed and improved because of experiments on live creatures. We also developed the techniques for cloning and stem cells through experimentation on living creatures.

I can understand saying that an experiment is useless or something is abusive being described as an experiment, but we will be set back hundreds of years if experiments were not conducted in living species.

I will also never experiment on my personal fish, just on what the lab supplied.

The OP isn't trying to discover the cure for cancer. The whole experiment is: under how poor of conditions can I keep a sturgeon before it dies?

you aren't doing justice for yourself. The fish the OP is getting probably isn't straight out from the wild, so this experiment isn't going to discover anything beneficial. while I believe in experimenting on live animal is beneficial, the OP experiment is just keeping a large fish in bad condition to see how long it will last, and it been done and widely discover even with book publish and online resources called "Caresheets"

however I say to the OP do it! :clap provide me with a quality entertainment as your expense.
