Sterilzing a used to be Salt water to a Fresh

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It sounds like he doesn't have any build up so as long as he rinses a few times then he will be fine.

I clean the tank using toilet bowl cleaner, removes EVERYTHING. Just be sure to thoroughly rinse, then fill the tank, add carbon and prime. I have done this several times, never had a problem.

hey guys. thanks for all the great replies. there wasn't much build up. just mostly algae and gunk. i used really hot water to get all the algae off then i used my brothers steamer which uses just plain water and steamed the whole thing inside and out. tank is perfectly clear and fits perfectly in my room. tomorrow ill finish off the sump and get it circulating for a week or two before i transfer my fish over

Theres still some spots i have to take the steamer too but ill be sure to get all of it before the tank gets filled. dont you just love the clearance. if it didn't fit on that wall i wouldn't be able to keep it in my room. missed the door path by a few CM"s

I just thought about it, I have never tried my method with an acrylic tank, use caution!

Be careful with the acrylic, I have heard that Windex can ruin an acrylic tank.

as on any of my tanks i never use chemicals to clean them. whether acrylic or glass. hot water takes care of pretty much any bacteria

ok so i finally got the tank cycling. i ended up building my own sump with a 30g bin, 2 containers, 1 with pillow stuffing and another with pot scrubbers. Im using a ViaAqua 2200gph pond pump and lemme tell you that this thing is awesome. I added a stand pipe in the built in overflow box to get rid of the waterfall sounds so everything is going smoothly. Im also using a ViaAqua 300watt heater which i put in the sump and the water is warming up nicely. Ill be cycling the tank for 2weeks to a month to make sure everything is good then im throwing everything in the 180g. thanks for the help guys and if you have any info, please share the knowledge.

Fishless cycle, with 5 large shrimp or ammonia drops?
