Sterlet Food

:iagree: ive seen lots of food specifically for sturgeons ... just nothing in the US ... and i've tried to get info on whats "best" to feed them, with no real luck

I don't see why you would think you need a special food for sturgeons, a good quality koi pellet should do it, I fed mine hikari micro pellets, I mixed them with live daphnia and they ate both eventually they would eat the pellets. I like to feed daphnia but they do tend to be seasonal and when a culture crashes it's a good idea to have something else your fish will eat. Tiny pellets do seem to be taken better by smaller sturgeon.

koi are veggie eaters where sturgeon are insect and crustacean eaters sturgeon need a WHOLE lot more protein in the diet then koi

koi and goldfish food fed to sturgeon leads to nutriention problems, swimbladder problems, and other health issuses

STURGEONS ARE CARNIVORES

That is a very good point, thanks for pointing it out. I that case I would try a good carnivore food. I feed the ones i had years ago on live black worms and daphnia. The micro pellets are supposed to be for tiny fish that eat small animals like daphnia so it should have been ok too. another thing to think about if you are keeping your sturgeon in a cold water pond tropical fish food might be difficult to digest at low temps.

Sterlets are from RUSSIA the USA's cold ain't got NOTHING ON russia's winters

What does that have to do with the cold water vs warm water fats and proteins and their ability to digest them? The water can't get any colder than 32 degrees.

Discus food is a good alternative
