sorry to hear that :( how big were they when the tank busted? any idea how or why the tank broke?

what types of fish do they work with? pretty big ones?
do you know if anyone has luck with keeping paddlefish, or do most die before reaching a decent size ?

The tank was just old, it happens sometimes. Most of the fish they keep are big ones in the three foot or larger range. They feed them tiny pellets. (paddlefish) Sturgeon are usually reared on pellets as well.I fed my sturgeon live daphnia and live black worms. they were about 6" when disaster struck. I traded some blue spotted sunfish I had bred for the sturgeon 1 for 1 I think i got the better deal but I haven't been able to find any more shovelnose since then. How big is your tank? You can't imagine how badly I wanted one of those paddlefish!

you definitely got the better deal!!!
as for the pellets, do you know what kind? i would be very interested in getting some!!!

i have seen shovelnose advertised a few times, but i dont know if they were true SN, or if they were really something else (like what happened to me)
as for the paddlefish, you were looking but didn't find any this year?

as for my tank- they are in a 30 in my bedroom so i can keep an eye on them, but i am going to move them into a 125 once i know for sure that i don't need to keep an eye on them 24/7
then maybe a bigger tank, or a small indoor pond, then probably eventually an outdoor pond

I may be wrong...if anyone knows where to get a shovelnose, tell me!!!!

Are we talking about shovelnose cat??? I catch those frequently out of the river or tailwater where a large lake dumps into a river devided by a dam.

Does anyone know where I can inquire about purchasing a shovelnose sturgeon?

i don't want sterlets. i was just curious about them, and i know they are pretty available in the LFS ...
i have talked to a few people who know more about sturgeons than me, and the fish i have (that was sold as a SN) is probably a white sturgeon. he is pictured in my native tank thread (with pickerel and paddlefish).
i am working on gettting better pics of all fish, so maybe the sturgeon can be possitively ID'ed

as for them escaping, they will not be able to get into any local waters.
the thread talked about here, cant find it
