Sticker Shock!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thought the aqueon tanks might be a deal with petcos 50% off tank sales but aqueon claims that they can not guarantee what type of glass they use during production. Apparently if they use different glass than advertised they will have a sticker on the bottom of their tanks stating that they used poorer quality glass than advertised. Wow!

I guess I’m just disappointed because setting up new aquariums is exciting and wanting to do several 4’ tanks is something I’m going to have to wait on because I’m disabled after a serious fall in 2019 (30’ fall) so I don’t have the same income as when I was working. The good news is there are work arounds like buying used setups, buying fish from local hobbyists, getting plants from local hobbyists, etc. it’s not the end of the world. Just surprised that things changed so fast.

That's...interesting. Could it be that they can't guarantee that the glass is or is not tempered?

Given that choice, I'd take the "cheaper" non-tempered stuff every time. I want to drill my tanks. I'd be happy to have a company identify the glass in question.

There's ways to tell if the glass is tempered. It's annoying they don't just tell you though.

Yeah, I've done that with every piece of glass I have ever drilled...ever since the one that blew up on me due to being tempered. So now, I do the polarized glass thing...and still hold my breath every time the drill touches the glass...

Rimless tanks are lame, can’t find new acrylic tanks in store anymore, and huge tanks sold without stands is also another stupid trend.
Large stands costs almost as much as the tanks!!! That’s a bummer too!

But yeah... I agree. In my area there are two 210's for sale used. One guy wants like two grand and the other four. Neither come w/ anything worth buying beyond the tank.
