Anyone ever keep sticklebacks? I just caught some today (brookes I think) and I was wondering how to care for them. I have them in a 20g with 2 crayfish now, and a sponge filter. I was thinking brine shrimp, bloodworms, and flakes for food, what do you think? Also how easy/hard are they to breed? Ill post picks tomorrow when they come out from hiding.

They are relatively easy to keep and very interesting to watch, They almost seem to fly through the water. They are not the easiet to spawn but they have a unique spawning method. THey build a nest out of debris that they somehow stick together. If you do get them to spawm a photodocumentation of it would be great.

Evil, nasty fin nipping bastards. Keep them out of a community tank!

They are little killers....I made a post about them a while back about how they eat a minnows eye's out. Then I got two and they just tried to kill each other. It didn't help either that I put them togeather in a small 2.5 gallon tank.

I think they're too slow to do anything to the tiger barbs but who knows. I do like they way they swim and they are very interesting.

Me and bassman caught several dozen, but I only kept 3 for my tank, the rest are in with the feeders. I had no idea they were so aggressive, they seem scared as hell in my tank lol. Any tips on getting them to breed? Ive seen pics of their nests, and they look pretty cool.

This is out of my book "American Aquarium Fishes" by Robert Goldstein.

A 10g aquarium is sufficient for a small group (six to eight fish). Include some salt (5% sea salt). The temperature should not exceed 65 F; higher tempperatures inhibit reproductive behavior. The photoperiod should be 14-16 hours of light. Provide abundant live plant material, such as Elodea, Anacharis, and algae, and some structure, such as rocks or driftwood. The newly hatched fry take Artemia nauplii as a first food, and are easily reared in cold water. THe brook stickleback declines in warm water.

I induced mine to spawn in a 20 long by setting up a power head on one end. I started with less than 10 fish (If I remember correctly), And lost most in the first week. I think the male made a "ball" of detritus from the sticks and plants I had in the tank. Pics please...

I caught my sticklebacks in a creek where the temperature was easily over 80 (air temps have been gettin around 100 lately here, and the water didnt cool me down much lol) Im not sure if they are brooks though, thats just my guess. Ill post pics when they start coming out of hiding, everytime I go by the tank they hide lol
