I caught a stickleback fry the other day in my saltwater lagoon along with some smelt fry and put them in my 10g for my bass fry to eat, he didn't eat the stickleback and after an hour the stickleback was still alive in the freshwater, i then put it in a 10g with some mosquitofish and its still alive and healthy today, its been in freshwater for over 24 hours and is in great shape. You think it will survive, i know sticklebacks can live in both salt and fresh, but was suprised how it survived being thrown strait into freshwater. Anyone kept these before?

I have had several live for a yr and they ate flake, i know that the other fish didn't touch them so i left them in the tank, i did see one caught in the mouth of a bluegill and i had to remove it since then they have been ok.They were mixed in with the feeders.

I got two more about an inch long and put them in with my baby bass in a 10g. Here is one of them.

Problem with sticklebacks is that most people try to keep them in mixed aquaria where they are not able to compete for food. In a species tank, or a tank with non-aggressive feeders they should do fine.

Great fish, very interesting but also ive found them to be fin nippers, However in a small species tank, they are definitely worthy of the space
