Just by himself he is also really shy. I wanted to get 2 tinfoil barbs for him, but my tank is only 45-gallons, so I dunno if it would work out.

first I want to ditto that yours is a great looking GT. I wouldn't go with tinfoils though as they'll get way too large for a 45 gallon. how about something smaller like a medium sized rainbow species or giant danios. you may even be able to get by with 3-4 silver dollars.
