thanks Miranda
hey sand is a great idea...all you need to do is clean the surface of the sand about 1/2" to 1 1/2" away with a python....and you just need to do those every once in a while sifting of the sand to let out any gas pockets that may be their...cause if you have one gas pocket stuck under that sand from uneaten food and other crap from you cats...and when you sift it...you can cause a fatality of your inhabitants.Just do that like every 3-4 months or if you want every month you can go ahead and sift the sand around.Oh yea and when you cats poop on the sand...it'll end up under the sand sooner or later since they get scared quite easily..they just end up sifting the sand so hard it brings everything from the surface of the sand to the bottom...and this also connects with polutions under the sand making gas pockets. But don't go with those play sand....they can be cheap anywhere around but they just get way to messy plus they are so small in particulates that they can easily get sucked into your intake valve messing up your filter.Get any other sand like the Black Tahitian Moon Sand....as they have great hues in the sand that brings the colors of your fishes dark =] and you can even see them better. You don't even need to worry about you RTC or any other cat you get eating it....as they can't. And also no worries about some of your fishes taking in some sand and spitting them out from the gills as they will just come out.
