Still lost looking for a pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would consider getting two Laguna Max Flo 2400s. Running dual pumps is the best way to go.

Each 2400 will do 1,664GPH @ 6' head on just 84 watts each. Total flow = 3,328GPH on just 168 watts.

Drs. Foster and Smith is having a sale on Lagunas right now. You can get the 2400 for $175.99 each.

You can also just get the 4280, but that pump will "only" get you 2,935GPH @ 6' head on 160 watts. It looks like it's also on sale are Drs. F & S for ~$200.

Lookedat the max flos..need a high pressure pump for setup in mind. Thx for the input so far everyone.

You mentioned that your setup has 6' of vertical head. What's the total head in your system? (Just trying to figure out why you need a high pressure pump).

High pressure pumps draw lots of electricity, so if you can design your system without the need for one, it will save you a lot of money on your electric bill.

Going to be running a ultima 4000. With the vertical 6t after the ultima

Yes, if you need a high pressure pump for a reason those pumps listed wo t work. You will have to go to loud, enerysucking hogs of pumps like iwakis which have amazing lifespans (I had one for almost 20 years!). Now that I've gone to a reeflo dart gold that uses under half the energy my iwakis did but puts out almost double the flow and are essentially silent ill never go back. I would every day of the week use a reeflo over a laguna, quiet one or any internal pump, they just don't compare in my experience (I own both those pumps listed as well as a few other brands mostly high pressure pumps).

Sounds like the Reeflo Hammerhead Gold would be ideal.

According to Aqua UV's website, the Ultima will add anywhere between 3' to 8' of head, so using the higher estimate of 8' and your vertical head of 6' you are looking at a total head of around 14'.

Reeflo Hammerhead Gold will push 4,200GPH @ 14' head on 345 watts.

WLim Aqua Wave 1/4 HP I TEFC is another option that would work- Looks like that pump will do around 4300GPH @14' head on around 365 watts.

They are both about the same price.

I can attest to the customer service at Reeflo; Chris is very helpful if you run into any issues.

Just be aware that when using Ultimas for tanks too much flow will result in water clarity issues. Too little flow will affect proper backwashing. I've seen people install 2 speed pump or a second buster pump to reduce the flow for filtering and still have enough for backwashing.

Thx for all Input guys appreciate the help ordered the hammerhead barracuda hybrid gold. Came over night ill be starting te build this weekend. Ken dragon I thought about that as well wat do u think of T ing it off into a water barrel with media. What dou recommend for fast cycling? I have no running tanks at this location yet.
