sting ray + aro = bad?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been keeping a 1' black aro that is used to solitary confinement with a dinner-plate size motoro and a 2' SAL for a week now.
The aro does not mind the SAL, but seems to be afraid of the motoro. Actulally she looks more like seriously disgusted by it. The motoro is so very active, it annoys even me. It can't get the food that floats in the middle of the tank and continues jumping up along the walls for hours and the arowana won't feed.
Perhaps one day the aro will get used to it and/or bite it and they will get along, but for now I am worried that it freaks it out too much.

give it more time to settle...

black aros are more timid...

Yeah. I think eventually they should get along. When the ray isn't darting around, it stays on the gravel and the aro sticks to the surface and gets its break.

Also my aro is over a year old and isn't used to any tankmates. Others should have less problems.

Generally it actually appears to be a very good combo.

and it will be when your aro gets settled...

hmmm... in other cases i wld worry for the tankmates if an aro was kept for an extended period alone before, but a black is unlikely to go territorial so its cool. :grinyes:

South American Lungfish ?

My large motoro has eaten 2 smaller aros.. Motoros around 11-12 and the aros about 9 inches. If the aro is small enough and the aro is huge and aggressive, it could happen, but its not common.

aro and sting ray has always been a combination, ever heard of the aro getting killed by the ray.....
