I use a Rena Smart heater in my tank attached to the intake tube of a XP3. It won't burn the ray and is unbreakable. It has been working reliably now for a couple of years and even has a flashing light if the temp goes out of range (too high or low). I also have a second heater in my sump.
I also just use temp adjusted tap water straight from the tap with a python. I just add Prime conditioner for the chlorine and chloramines.
People say that they are a very sensitive fish, last thing I want to do is mess up. She is really coming around on her eating. Love earthworms the best I think. Here's a video I threw together.
pH doesn't need to be an exact number that matches the water the fish originally come from. If you were trying to match nature, you'd probably be looking for a pH somewhere around 5 - and that would mean your biofilter would shut down. Something around 7 will be fine.

I think you'll be throwing a lot of water away for no really good reason. And considering the amount of water changing you need to do with rays, when I say "a lot" I mean "*A LOT*".
