if 3' is not a option then I would skip rays.... motoros get about 30" disk and retics should have 3' because of 18" disk and very long tails...

Come on guys tell him the tank is too long. You should chop off a few feet from the length and add it to the width if you want rays. You could have a 8 foot by 6 foot tank and that would be better than the 11 by 2 or 3.
They like to sort of swim in circles so thats all you have to understand.
You don't need a public aquarium sized tank, just the proper dimensions like JD7.62 said.
Just read more about them. Google it, use the search bar to search some names of the rays and such, feeding requirements (need food all the time), etc.
