I had to move my male after my female gave birth to a different tank that has a pair of motoros due to him harassing the female. The second I put my mantilla male in there it was war. The male motoro went straight for him.

At the time I thought the mantilla was the only one injured (visible bite marks) but the motoro was surfing the glass and he has several stinger wounds on his belly and the mantilla stinger is exposed at about 1/2 inch.

He is swimming and eating fine so far but there are 7 total open wounds with 2 or 3 looking deep.

They have necrotizing venom so it decays from the injection point outward if the venom was actually released in the sticky section is a awesome thread with what to do if u get stung and how the whole process of stinger and venom working but I do know certain animals are immune to their venom so hope rays are immune to Ray venom

should be fine...thats alot of stabs lol... but ive had this happen between rays also, one of my 12" males got hit 4-5 times persuing a fem and didnt miss a beat...ate right after and recovered quickly. u can add some reg solar salt to help the healing process. no needs for anything else imo.

They'll be fine. I've had males poked so full of holes during Breeding I couldn't believe it. Pin cushions. I'm sure they're immune to the venom or I know a lot of male rays that would be dead by now. Keep water clean and look for infection as it is an open wound. The main fear I have is a stab to the eye.

Tip: I now clip all breeding age female's barbs. Tin snips, if necessary pliers in the other hand. I wear filet gloves for protection. They have no feeling in the barb so it isn't a big deal.

Last time my male bred my female she poked him good at least 3 times in the face... I was worried at first, I added some salt to make sure he didn't get a secondary infection. He is fine now, eating well as usual. Where the holes were at is still discolored and dark now, this happened a couple months ago.

That all good to hear, I've never had an issue with my females tagging my males but that may be something I look at in the future with clipping.

I suggest clipping barb like others have said. I now clip my ray's barb after my lince died from a barb wound to head.
