I just got a phone call about stingrays being banned very soon in WA state by the lady that gets to decide which animals can go and which can't. The Lung fish and swamp eels are also on the list of fish that may be banned in the VERY near future.

No effin way! That sucks! I'm in Bremerton and I'm in the process of setting up an 8x3x3 tank and was just thinking last night about trying out a ray or two.
I wasn't gonna have any beers tonight, but that just changed my mind!

Mr. Rowe,

To recap our telephone conversation. I appreciate the cooperation and concern for the environment you have expressed. As I indicated,
Piranha are a prohibited species in Washington State. As such they may not be possessed, imported, purchased, sold, propagated, transported or released into state waters. This means that your intention to pass them through the state and ship them on to Canada is not legal.

The Stingray species and lungfish you have listed on your import list for the Georga Wildliife Resources division are unclassified - as such they are treated as prohibited species and are also illegal in this state until the agency has reviewed them and determined the level of risk they would pose if released into the wild. As you indicated, you are well aware of the fact that people release aquarium fish all of the time, and some of them become problematic. I sincerely appreciate your willingness to hold off on this shipment until we are able to review the habitat requirements and behavior of these fish and make a decision about them. I look forward to receiving the information you mentioned.

Thank you for your cooperation.

So they are already banned according to her.

they are. If you have one right now technically you are breaking the law?

I just saw a few in Tacoma a week or so ago!
Do you think there's a chance of reversing their decision after they review the species and the potential threat to the locals?

Absolutly. I will be mailing information to her about stingrays and fish that may be hazerdous to our local wildlife. I put Wildlife before economy and While I hate to say it there are fish that could adapt to our climate. I'm hoping and am confident that with research they will not find P. sp or any other ray dangerous. I will asking the MFK community to help and those members that have bred ray and kept rays to give me a lending hand in accumulating authentic information in keeping, and breeding rays. I think it's going to be a long and expensive process though, It seems that often times these people fall on theory more then fact. As a fish lover and promoter of study, I shake my head at both the government as well as the pet store that said the fish was only going to get as big as the tank and the kid that throws the fish into our lakes. LUCKILY, this lady was not against doing further research for the P. SO we may be able to give enough knowledge to gain respect for these animals.

Well, there's hope then.
Even though I have no experience with rays, I'm willing to lend any support I can.

Thanks.

You can thank all the stupid people that dump fish into lakes. Stupid people should be herded into camps.
