Stingray biting silicone

My male is chewing on the silicone on the side panel. Sure hope he doesn't start tearing the seam apart.
 
I've had other fish do this and was always under the assumption/told it was from nutrient defficencies? like some people chewing ice w/ iron issues?... I wonder if there is any truth to it? BUt I deffinately woulnd't discount boredom... if had fish do weird things out of boredome x2 change the decor around ect or add something he can play with on the bottom like a small chunck of DW or something thats "safe" to chew on? yes.. I am suggesting to give the fish a toy.. lol
 
my ray would chew on my acrylic! messed it up bad. I bought some dog toys! nyla bone, and she chewed on it lol! I put in some small pvc elbows. she seemed bored..... I would add substrate and small rocks they can sift around, maybe some bits of manzanita to chew on? be creative but make sure none of it is toxic!
