He is eating 10x better its just the burns he's in my 45 hex tank for the day as I am gonna re arrange my heaters to places were he does not go as for aquarium salt is it necessary?

Make a cheap heater guard using pvc slightly bigger with holes drilled in it and zip ties to hold in place.
I use all natural water softer salt from walmart. I do recommend using salt to prevent infection (never add crystals directly to tank, dissolve first).
50% wc weekly, oversize filteration (look through diy section) and eventually gonna need a 180g or bigger...
