Stingray has burnlike injury on disk

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have crushed coral sand in my tank, not all of it, but i supplement somethimes when i see the ph goes a little down. I have 7,5 in my tap, and the aquarium could drop to 6 in just some days. So i add to keep it stable and as close to my tap as possible(easyer to do large waterchanges).

I figured out that the likely problem is that i unfortunately did not let the salt disolve fast enough and my motoro glided right over the salt and burned himself. Has anyone ever had this stupid mistake happen and is there a treatment that will heal his damaged disc?

You should always premix your salt... but i dont even use aquarium salt tho... you shouldnt need to, just do ur water changes and everything will be ok

aj is right but also how did you come to this conclusion. a quarter size burn at only one part of his disc cause from his whole disc going over undissolved salt. I'm thinking its time for a pic to try and find out what it really is.

like already stated sticky reading should have been done a long time ago. both these things are preventable. and if you cant find a heater guard you can always make one cheap.
i would suggest after taking some pics and showing us maybe to read the stickies and work on that heating guard so these problems can be prevented in the future.
good luck

Yea i hear what your saying. Iv tried to take a picture but its hard with my ****ty camera phone. I really dont know what is happening im just hoping its one of these two; either heater burn or salt burn. It started as a slightly red quarter sized fleshy injury and then half an inch behind it but still on the outer most area of the disk a noodle shaped injury occured that is slightly affecting the topside of the stingray. i will try to take a pic tonight. All i am going to do for now is buy a heat guard, perform a 50% water change and then 25% for the next week. Should i add dissolved salt or any antibiotics.

I have done similar things in the past without adding antibiotics and had the fish die because i did not act fast enough. I cant let this happen again.

hes with a 5" AGTF, 6" redtailed payara, 5" tarpon. Im treating the tank with melafix now cuz i think it turned into a bacterial infection. Pray for me that after 7 days everything turns out alright.
