Stingray has burnlike injury on disk

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont know how to post pictures on here but from what it has turned into and the fraying of the disk is now both noticable on the top and bottom with white stringy membrane that occured the following day from the initial "burn" I am now taking all precaustions and treating the tank for the next 7 days. Should I be doing the 25% water changes each day.

Well the injury tripled in size in 24 hrs and the first small quarter sized wound is not even attached to the large injury that is deteriorating his disk and leaving white stringy membrane from his disk and losing most of his slime coat around the area, after that i did an immediate 55% water change. I do not know now to post pictures but i have some so once i figure out how to, i will. I am currently on the 7 day treatment, should i also be doing 25% water changes each day or let the antibiotics cycle for the full 7 days before i make another change?

You can make guards out of pvc tubing.Just drill nine thousand holes (give or take 1 or 2):D in it and slip it over the heater. Sorry if this has been suggested already.I didn't read the whole thread.
Normally they heal fine also under the right conditions. Be careful though, rays definitely do not like trauma of any kind and even a heater burn could cause them to go in to shock even at a later date and curl. They need no stress,no trauma and lots of water changes, great filtration and good food. Read up on some of the stickies etc on here. They have lots of good info.Good luck with it.I hope it turns out okay for you.

Im treating this as a bacterial infection because its growing so rapidly. If anyone thinks differently let me know and how i can solve this problem without having a dead ray on my hands
