Hello everyone I wanted to buy a stingray but something that is not poisonous. I hear that the Morto stingray is not poisonous. Could u help me how to take care of it.mand how to handle it. The fish which I have in my aquarium are.
two small green terrors.
three 8-9 inch oscars
three sun catfish. Two are about 3 inches and one is almost 5 inches
two flowerhorns also small.
land maybe a peacock bass and clown knife
so the question is is a stingray suitable for my aquarium and also could u tell me what it eats I dont want to feed it liver and all that stuff. Does it normal sinking pellets?
Thanku

First of all, all stingrays are venomous. They dont have control over using their tale, so dont be afraid of it attacking tankmates, for other than defense.
The second question is, do you have have a large enough tank? The Motoro stingray, grows very large, so that is not the one you want, it grows to disc 30"
You want something like a hystrix, reticulatus or scobina.

Hystrix are very rare, and so are scobina. Then theres the Reticulatus. It grows to 14 - 16" so you will need a 3' wide tank.
These rays are often imported in poor conditions, so their very fragile. Theres alot other things, but the first thing you gotta ask your self, is do you have a large enough tank? It will need a 3' wide tank. and something like 7 long. hight isnt really a problem.

Reticulatus, isnt the worst with poison, how ever the motoro is real bad, just dont get stung.
Dont buy a stingray with that plans of later upgrading, by a stingray when your ready, and have a large enough tank. Something like 6' x 3' x 2' lenght, widht, and height would be a bare minimum.
70% of "I'm gonna get a larger tank later" dosnt get a larger tank later.

Good info, BUT, my retic barely caught me with her barb and it was absolutely horrible. Near boiling water was the only thing that soothed the pain for 45min+. Also, I have lost a number of fish as a result of a barb to the face so they must not be too bad of a shot... :/

Rays dont have control over their barb, so if they do scorpion attack, im very confused. All rays should hurt like hell, if you get hit by the barb, or any other spike on the tail, but the Motoro should be far worse than Reticulatus.

I remember a post on here, with a guy only feeding every other day, and feeding frenzyes happened, hes fish got hit by the barb, by accident, because of the feeding frenzy.

All you have to do is limit the amount your hand is in the tank and pay attention to what you're doing ray aren't malicious with their tail, simply defensive so just dont piss em off........motoros get huge even the marbles will get 22" or so and the retics are sensative little things. I wouldn't suggest any even half aggressive tankmates rays tails and disk can be easy chewed on causing an open wound and infection. Rays aren't a good idea for anyone who doesn't have alot of free time or an almost endless budget

OK slow down everyone. First thing is a stingray is like any other fish you do not handle it. Rays eat allot of frozen foods such as shrimp tilapia and smelt. With work they will eat sinking and even floating pellets without a problem. They do require a very large tank so you need to have a large system with really good filtration and you need to enjoy water changes because you will be doing allot of them. The stinger will hurt from the stab and yes is venomous. They do of course have control over their tail and feel pressure very well when applied to their tail like pulling a cat or dog tail slightly they feel it. I would not say one is more venomous than another. Some just have bigger stingers which will do more damage like a knife and probably has a larger amount of venomous slime on it. rays are not like snakes they do not inject poison. If you are smart around and with your stingray you will have nothing to worry about with the possibility of getting stung. If you take risks while having and venomous animal you have a chance of getting hurt. The key is be smart. Just because you see one guy pet a cobra snake does not mean you should do it as well. Stingrays are not out to get fish with their barb. Accidents do happen where fish sometimes get hit but it's rare. I feel It happens more often because of a started fish or something that spooks them not because they try to do so. Rays are amazing fish to keep but you have to be committed to keeping one. My advice is ready all you can about the filtration requirements the water quality needed and the normal tank space they require from being a pup to adult. I hope this helps you and clears up some information. I truly love my rays allot and wish everyone had the chance to fully know them better and learn that being responsible and careful around them is easy to do with a couple ground rules. That to me is key set some rules. Understand your fish and be careful and you don't have to worry about the stinger at all. I sure hope the op is able to read this and good luck.

Well thanku everyone but I want to ask u are my fish compatiable with the stingray? And what should I do if I happen to get bit

Most of your fish are to small and messy feeders

What size tank do you have as once all the fish you mentioned get fairly big it will take a lot of work to keep the water clean
