What size tanks do you guys have the pups in? I'm in the process of making my setup but have overlooked the need for a grow out tank. Not sure if it would be a good idea to put a pup in an 8'x4' tank right away.

Mine is a 6 x 2 x 2 till next year around this time. Then I have a 300g lined up for the next stage while I plan out my big tank(s). Plan is to have 3-4 tanks 300g + down the road.

I would imagine if you don’t have any other fish that bother the rays more space is better.

You think a 5"-7" pup would be fine in a tank that is 8'x4' in size? I haven't had a ray yet so I'm not sure but I figured it would be hard to feed them if they were in that big of a tank? I guess they should be able to find the food in a big tank even if they are small, they do it in the wild lol.

I plan on putting my 3 pups in the 8ft x 8ft when it's ready in about 6-8 months. Currently they are in a 125 and hopefully next month in a 180

It mostly depends on the pup. They are all different. One will smash food and not leave anything, another will chew, chew, spit, move on and the next will just sit there in the sand and do nothing. Just have to watch what the personality is and adapt to whatever they do.

I haven’t personally heard of rays needing a smaller growout, usually it’s the opposite from what I have read.

Maybe more experienced keepers can chime in.

just looks like minor irritation. if she's eating well and swimming well and seems happy, just roll with it. nice pup! :)
