Stingray in a 70g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
imo your makeing a wise choice not getting a ray... for the above mentioned reasons.. and when trying to move even a 4" disk ray... it's potentially dangerous. Rays should always imo be handled by adults ( not saying a kid or teen could not "handle" one.. because honestly most fish crazy kids would probably handle the fish better. all about liabily and not being a imo bad parent. I wouldn't let my daughter handle a venomous snake either.) There is a risk factor, even if you didn't get a "major" sting, any sting can have seriouse consequences if not properly cared for. Haveing that understanding and respect for them should always be forefront when houses/keeping them.

Thanks :)

you can keep any type of stingray in a 70g for life its just that its life wont be that long

Dude that's got to the worst advice you could give. That's like telling him to pet a rattle snake. A set up for disaster. Maybe you should read a little about the ethics of fish keeping.

I think you misunderstood him, he's saying technically yes you can stuff a ray in there but it would die eventually.

Have you seen T1's 1000gal dream tank.? He knows what he's doing.

I guess your right vet. Maybe it should've been worded differently.

I haven't seen his tank.

I bought 2 motoro stingrays at about 5 inches across and put them in a 75 to get some weight on them and make sure they didn't have to fight for food. I used 2 filters to make sure the tank could handle the bioload. I did 50% water changes 2-3 times a week to maintain pristine water quality. After about 6 months I moved them to my 210 and they are doing great. At some point I will have to get an even bigger tank. I only recommend a 75 for small pups and only for a short period of time. Remember you will have to be aggressive and religious with water changes. Do not do this when you don't have a large tank to put them in once they outgrow your 75. What if you can't find someone to buy them? Someone may be willing to take them but not give you any money for them. They aren't the cheapest either. I had my 210 set up for a few years before getting them and used the 75 to grow them a bit so they didn't get harassed by the other tank mates. How about getting some of the smaller species of colorful cichlids with small gravel on the bottom?

Yeah, Thanks man. I was going to put something like a pair of cichlids in. I was going to choice a pair of sevs but they would rip up the plants and I kind of want to keep a planted tank. I'm just stuck on bottom feeders .
