stingray in planted

Not all that familiar with Discus...is that Cardinal Discus or Tetras? If Tetras, they will make a great snack for ray's. Lol. I think large Discus would be ok.
I imagine a big ray would tear up a planted tank but a small ray like a Hystrix may work ( depends on how "planted" it is ). The ray will need plenty of room to swim and bury itself. Also if your future goals are to breed Discus, the ray's would just pick off the babies.

i was thinking 2-3 reticulated or hystrix and i know they would eat the teras but would large school 100-200 work

Normally planted tanks and rays don't work well because rays need as much floor space as possible.

I put 100 neons in my tank one the ray never took one out at a time it jumped on the shoal and took out 20-30 in one go

The problem with neons is they come down to the bottom when the lights go out

As for plants no chance

I would say no, have tryd with many different plants, they take em all out.. As for discus ive tryd this aswell, and it worked ok, but a second mind hit me, Discus is suppose to have calm roommates, and a healthy ray, is nothing near to calm.. So i sold all mine, as i think the rays disturb the discus alot!

I have 5 discus,5 rays and many cardinals all in one tank. The rays and discus are fine together.

I keep the rays very well fed so they won't chase the tetras.

It's just not going to happen with any amount of plants raysdig in substrate and they will dig them up fast no matter how many you have

Discus may work when the rays are small but don't under estimate the power of a large ray you discus are living on borrowed time

Not many mid water fish are safe with a ray 10 inch +

As for keeping them well fed large rays kill for fun not always for food my rays just killed a 12 inch tinfoil barb for fun they always do it when the lights are out

I have plants tied onto things in the tank (heater cover, uv sterilizer, etc). The rays have no interest in them but it's barebottom at the moment so that may have something to do with it.
