i notice some little black spots right behind its eyes on the top of its head which I didnt see a week ago. They almost look like blackheads but doesnt look like any infection around them. How long have you kept a Ray and what species?
California round, yellow, bluespot ribbontail, bluespotted. Several years. The spots could be some sort of nematode or pod. Can't reallyhelp ya without a pic. Also meant to tell you round rays are truly a temperate species preferring sub-70s I believe.
Sailfin Tang, they are those little black spots right on top behind the eye and I keep it at 74 degrees. Ive read they can take temp down to 54 but you cant have any cool fish with those temps
No other fish in there before it, I have had it two weeks now. The live sand and rock were giving to me so if its parasites they could have hitched hiked. Would a cleaner wrasse or shrimp be an option? The guy i got it from did suggest that so i will get one tomorrow
The wrasse woulld be best but won't live long after parasites are gone. Shrimp might become lunch. Ask if your friend ever had rays and if they had parasites. Most elasmobranch host different -todes and -pods
I bought this from a guy that sells alot of coral and live rock out of his home. He also sets up tanks for people and he had ordered this ray for someone , but when it came in it was much to big for the people so he kept it in a neighbors 180 gallon pond with another ray and I believe their were some fish in there too but thats about all i know. I dont think those spots were there a week ago as i am always looking down on the thing
