Quarantine Tank
I know the water quality issues but can people please provide me some input on feeding?

Do you provide worms 24/7 for a given amount of time? How often do you feed? Twice a day? If so for how long? etc?

When there newborn chances are they are eating black worms or earthworm only. Just feed them 2-3 times a day what they will eat in 5 minutes only. Then when get some size on them say a month or two try get them eating shrimp and silversides.

my baby female motro is being very picky. i been feeding blood worms. and krill and everything under the sun but she still hasnt eaten. i dump some blood worms in at night b4 i turn out the lights and i think she eats very little but only when lights are off, is this common. hmmmmm

IMO it depends on the heath of the ray......when i got my retics they were very skinny and underfed. i would aways keep the tank stocked 24/7 with live blackworms which they would bury themselves in the gravel and the rays would be sifting all day looking for them. when they appeared to be the size i was comfortable with, i lessened the amount the black worms were available during the day by adding 3 "portions" twice a day, and eventually weaned them to eat silversides and ghost shrimp.

I always put some sand in the pup tank and then placed a ton of live blackworms in one end of the tank. The pups would graze whenever they felt like it.

I was thinking about this and wondered if having worms in the tank ready to graze and eat 24/7 diminishes water quality?

Anybody know?

yeah it will effect the water quality if your filtration is not up to par
i don't put in that many worms just enough to last a day or 2 then add more
besides on my pup tank it either plumbed into the main tank or i am doing water changes almost dailey till there big enough to feel good about

That is the beauty of live foods (blackworms) there is nothing to rot and diminish water quality.

ditto.

ive noticed that even though my pups arent "looking" for food, if they run them over they will eat a few because they cant resist.

i also think bare bottom helps so they arent just hiding all the time.

ive been keeping blackworms in 24/7 til im confident enough.

Good Thread!
