ditto.

ive noticed that even though my pups arent "looking" for food, if they run them over they will eat a few because they cant resist.

i also think bare bottom helps so they arent just hiding all the time.

ive been keeping blackworms in 24/7 til im confident enough.

Good Thread!

So you think its a good tradeoff having easily accessible worms in a barebottom vs. giving a pup some hiding security in a sand bottom?

What do others think? Worms 24/7 barebottom OR Worms 24/7 sand?

With respect to your opinion I would think that sand might be better, either way the pup will get the worm.

I would say worms with sand so they can hide a until they figure out what is going on...

where would i find some live black worms, i havnt seen any at my lfs's

i guess either way would be ok. the pups i got were prob about a month old b4 i got them. if they were newborn sand might be better.

IMO after having sand, and having barebottom i prefer barebottom either way. plus u dont have to guess if they are eating or not. my pups are eating alot but are still fairly skinny, so it would be hard to tell if i didnt actually catch them in the act.

I was thinking about this and wondered if having worms in the tank ready to graze and eat 24/7 diminishes water quality?

Anybody know?

agree with filtration up to par... past flower rays along with retic?motoro rays have all had live black worms left in the tank for over a day with no ill effects....

i prefer barebottom as you can see what the ray is eating.... IMO if you keep the tank dark and covered the ray will feel just as safe and ill say again you can see what it is eating.... you cant really tell when there is sand as the worms will burrow right into the sand....

I move my pups out of the main tank into a tank of their own. Add some sand as well. Luckily, the pup from each litter has taken to chopped earth worms after a few days. Shrimp, squid, and scallop soon after so I haven't had to feed live blackworms. I feed them once a day.
