why is vendors web pages not updated daily like they used to be in 2007-08 Actually many of the sites haven't even been updated since that time span many have plain outright gone under or closed. Ray business seems busier than ever 
I'm being sarcastic rays are difficult for all the reason posted above . Arowana industry is the same thing. Fish that used to cost $2500 sell for $500-1000.
One really good side effect of all this is the quality of rays is astronomical now. It's hard to market things that are very common in a very limited community. The rare stuff is still expensive.
Aquaman is right about ray keeping its the bomb. I'm happy with the 20 rays in my basement right now.i wouldn't worry about the market around me. I could honestly care less

Stingray sales are stronger then ever, don't believe me check out some vendors... There's one with three pack marble motoro deals for $650 for adult "ready to breed" sizes!!!
Sales maybe high because prices are low
To tell the truth I wouldn't even say sales are high if they was why have prices crashed
