Lol okay great! I have well water, so i don't have chlorine... but im unsure about the chloramine.. is that something they add to the water? if so, I doubt its in the well water.. any advice is appreciated

Choloramine is a more stable compound of chlorine, if the water has not been through the water treatment plant it will not have it.

Well water might be perfect. I would test it once just to be sure.

Great! i figured the well water wouldnt have that stuff in it, just for fun i decided to test my water straight from the tap, and heres the results

Ammonia- 0.25-0.50 ( cant tell from the colors)

Ph-6.0

High range Ph- 7.4

Nitrate- 0ppm

Nitrite-0ppm

so i figure the PH may need buffering, also the ammonia, but not as bad as i thought LOL

It does seem that Well water comes out of the ground with ammonia at times, I would want to deal with that in some way before I put it in my tank...that or have massive filtration to deal with it and maybe test the time to dissipate once added to the tank.

I wonder if you could set up an ageing tank and filter this with a fluidized bed so that the ammonia is broken down before it hits the tank.

I would use a few other test kits as I THINK ammonia could throw out the results of other tests.

Thanks for the replies, is there anything my LFS would sell to remove ammonia from the water before a water change?

There are products like amo lock and prime but you need more advice as to whether it masks the ammonia or gets rid...I am sure someone on here can answer....we need to know the long term effects on the filter system etc.

If you are using API test, your ammonia can be OK. I had the same problem - couldn't recognize colors... I bought Seachem Test Ammonia, and they are better in my opinion.
