I'm positive the ray wasn't attacked by her tank-mates... there was absolutely no sign of an attack, and she was literally curled and was showing signs of it the night before ( I've seen this before and had rays survive the dreaded death curl if caught early enough) and TBH the Cuban has been with the rays for the past 2yrs now but I recently added a pair of tropical gar to the pool that do have a history of killing and eating tank-mates ( If anyones going to do it it's going to be them). But gar teeth are not something to go unnoticed. I had a minor incident w/ a florida gar awhile ago where the ray and gar went for the same night crawler and the ray got clipped but she healed up fine, I've seen pictures of male rays doing waay more damage to females.
The most reasonable scenario it seems at this point is something got into the pool while my husband was doing work on the pipes ect and the ray ingested it or came in direct contact before the water could dilute it... despite opening the windows and putting up the plastic. hence the massive slime coat production and why only the one fish was effected. Or it was a freak outbreak of some nasty bacterial/viral/fungal infection.
