I got a motoro about a month and a half ago to put with my pair of retics wich ive had for over a year. Now it seems that the female is stressed. From what I see is that she isnt eating as agressive and as much as she ustue but she still has a big but. What can I do to help my female out, also I have no where that I can divide them up, except mabey put a dividor.

have they all been together for a month and a half? and how long have you noticed this new behavior... my rays from time to time dont eat as much for a few days.. almost like they are strike or something, I think thats normal, but not if it goes for too long.

With the motoros aggressive eating behavior, if you don't remove it the retics will probably both stop eating. My motoros try to take food from my dats, very aggressive eaters.

The behavior just started about a day and a half ago. They have been together for a month and a half. But about 6 hours ago I noticed a change and shes back to normal swimming around and looking for food. My retics are long turm, almost a year and a half old. The good thing is that my motoro doesnt like fbw and my retics love them. But they really dont have trouble getting food, I hand feed all of them. Why the sudden change?

oh wait I added salt to the tank, I also noticed that my female had a mark on her. Mabey a bite mark but it was very very small.

move the motoro out asap. I lost a retic and then nearly lost another one due to this. They don't cope well with larger aggressive rays even if there is no sign of outward aggresion. I can't stress enough getting the motor out and maybe leaving the retics alone for a bit. They stress so easily. Check my earlier thread about retics and tankmates.

I experienced the same thing with my retics. I added a marbled and a normal motoro. After a few weeks my retics stopped eating and where less active. 1 retic died from stress when i removed here to antoher tank. The otherone lived and did great after 1 mont in the seperate tank. So i decided to put here back with the motoros. At first it looked as if it was goning great. Taking food agressively and the retic even bit the motoros to get to the food first. But after two weeks the same thing happened and he is now back by himself in a tank. As soon as i did this he started eating again.. So i prpbably have to sell him because tank is to small to stay in there.. :(

i added a 26" (i believe humerosa) to my tank with 4x4-5"retics and 1x6-7"motoro and at first they were weary of the big boy but became more active than ever and eating like nothing ever changed. i'm not disagreeing that it is possible for rays to get extremely stressed but i'm just stating that not every case is the same. I have noticed though that changes in the quality of water can have a negitive effect on behavior. Are your water changes on the same schedule as when you only had 2 rays? If so, try doing your water changes a little earlier than scheduled. Hope everything works out for you....good luck and keep us posted.

actually now that I think about it I hadnt done a w/c in about a week in a half (really busy) and did a w/c the day before I noticed the weird activity. Im going to keep a very close eye on the retics and if i notice anything else at all, im going to put a divider up.
