im looking for some stingray suggested species for a tank measuring 8 by 3 by 2 feet in addition to my much larger tank with motoro's. tankmates will probably be a single silver arowana. something in the of hystrix or p14?

what would be a good stocking guideline for a tank of this size and the silver arowana? will be overfiltered as usual.

thanks

I'de suggest getting your first tank set up and stocked before worrying about another. Don't want to set yourself up for failure by making unobtainable goals.

i was going to do this tank first cuz its a little more achievable financially

Well good luck to you...... I can't afford any projects that have a "P" in front of a number.... But hey...if you do have the money I'de get a "P" of a few different numbers... AFTER I had the tank up and running.........

alright, im gonna spill the beans......

i dont think i want that 800 gallon tank that ive been talking with people about for such a long time, once i got the price quote for the tank, approaching 12k USD.

im thinking that a set of 3 tanks of 360g would be a bit more reasonable, as it works with my african aro setup in one tank, the other a saltwater, and this one rays. and i can do all of the tanks and stuff for under the price of the big tank, although one day ill find out the price of that saltie tank, that is my very last tank setup to do.

so im just looking for some help on a smaller tank with smaller rays, a bit more reasonable in my eyes.

DB, maybe not "p" numbers, but maybe just as a last addition like a p14 or something, ill see where my funding will be after the other rays, but maybe ones like hystrix, retics, or scobina?

thanks

IF you do NOT have rays allready I'de start small. Simply put. I have kept fish for many many years and the thought of ANYTHING over $300 still scares the shibby outta me. Why? Cause at times that is almost a weeks worth of work. And when having to come up with a weeks worth of EXRTA salary above bills the fact that a simple malfunction could take that away sickens me. Start off with a inexpensive hardy ray. Lets be honest.... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to keep rays. All it takes is dedication. But if you do NOT currently have one swimming around then it's hard to say "I can easily become dedicated enough to keep them not only alive but thriving in good health" Once you get that ray then you can start realizing the importance of the equipment associated with keeping them....... Not just to keep them but to keep them through thick and thin....WHATEVER mother nature throws at you....... Dead fish plugging the filter. Power outages. Contaminated tap water........ You NEED to realize that the expense is not only with the ray but what it takes to INSURE you don't loose them. It would be kinda ironic to spend $3K on a ray or 2 then have them die from something as frivelous as a power outage. Catch my drift?

all those small rays besides retics are band from export in brazil... so u are gonna be spending an arm and a leg on....

Have you even been actually pricing/trying to find these rays? Researching and obtaining are 2 totally different things. You can research Scobina till you consider yourself an expert on them but that doesn't mean you'll be able to locate/afford one. Go get yourself a ray of somesort and start learining with firsthand experience. You are NOT gonna know what you want till you have kept rays.........
