I currently have a 7 inch female marbled motoro with the tip of her tail turning white and beginning to what looks like slowly routing away... I have had her for about two years and she is fed very well off of worms and feeder shrimp... I'm not sure what is taking place but it looks like it could be very serious..possibly fatal?:( If anybody has any experience with this please let me know ASAP if there is anything I can do to fix her... Thanks

Trevor

post some pix of her tail, im guessing there is some sand in ur tank? Its most likely a fungus.... up your water changes

Ill try to post pictures here in a week or so... Yes there is a sugar sand bead... Is this fungus your talking about deadly?

youve had her 2 yrs and she is 7" disc? thats some slow growing. are you sure she is feeding well.

i have a 5" pearl and she had a full tail when i got her. the tip has gone white and looking like dead skin. i think another ray or fish in my tank is nibbling on her tail.
or it could be just one of those things and the reason you dont see manny rays with 100% full tails.

i have a feeling she may be malnourished, if she has been fed mainly worms and feeder shrimp, maybe she needs more veriaty in her diet?

we kneed to know what size tank she is in
what her tank mates are
have you tested your water
what substrate she is on
what temp is her tank
how often do you waterchange

a tank mate could of nipped at her tail, if her tank conditions arnt perfect infection could set in then it could be serious.

pictures would help alot and some more info on her tank.

for now all i could say would be makesure water is perfect and add aquarium salt.

Alright guys I got her about 3 days after she was born a little over a year ago I can't quite remember. Shes anywhere between 7-8 inches I dont measure her. She is in a 180 temp 79-81 and I used to have a pleco in there with her but removed him because he was nipping at her. For there only being 1 fish in the whole system I do water changes about once a month with 30-40 gallons. She eats very well and I have tried to get her to eat frozen shrimp but she does not seem to like them. I feed her some small crawldeads and some rosy reds every once in a while. But she really likes worms and feeder shrimp..

up your water changes at least 50% weekly, you have a fungle problem..... and up ur feedings she should be bigger then she is now

Theres your biggest problem, start doing atleast 90 gallon changes a week like turkeyboy said, you should actually be doing even more than that. And stop feeding rosy reds, they do more bad than good, you should also start feeding more, your ray is way too small for its age. After you solve your fungal problem, starve your ray until she will take shrimp, she'll like it if thats the only thing you're going to offer for a couple weeks.
