So I bought a 305gal tank off of a local member here (some of you may recognize the tank), specifically for two to maybe three rays, looking to breed as a hobby.
Just thought I would post the pictures of the progress, as Ive been taking them to make a thread to share my aquarium
Dimensions are: 6'X4'X18"
Filtration: 55 gallon sump, FX5.
As I bought this thing, it was the tank, and a steel blue open stand. I decided to enclose the stand, to hide filtration, and fish supplies.
What I have done to the stand:
-Birchwood hanging panels, stained to an onyx black.
-Rear is just a standard plywood.
-Industrial size wheels welded to bottom of stand to serve two purposes (raise the tank height, allow for ease of movement when moving the tank)
-Cut the tank into three pieces (bolting it back together to one piece) to allow the stand to fit into standard doorways when moving.
-Shelving inside (rear for filtration system, front lower and upper for fish supplies) wrapped in an easy to clean black vinyl.
-Lighting, 6 lights inside the stand to be able to see fish supplies, filtration when needed controlled by a one touch switch.
What I have done to the tank:
-3 Stage novus acrylic polishing. Tank was very hazy, but with some of this stuff, it cleared it up pretty good. Not new, but much better.
-Painted back, bottom, partial sides of the tank (The tank used to have a built in filter to it, it was removed by someone else, but you can still see where it was.)
Whats left:
-Figure out the 55 gallon sump, hook up filtration.
-Add a cloth type "skirt" at bottom of tank to hide wheels
-Add a matching birchwood canopy to hide water line.
-T5 light
-Small things here and there I forgot, I would love to do a drip system, but I think thats going to be too complicated for my knowledge.
Sand, and stock. I have a marble motor about 12" and possiby a Castexi (friend of mines) going into the tank, trying to breed the female Castexi, with my male motoro.
Pictures:
First day before anything:
Polishing tank:
Wheels welded on (5 in back, 5 rigid in front staggered)
Prepping tank and painting:
Adding shelving in stand:
Unfinished panels, test fitting:
Shelving wrapped in vinyl, panels stained, lighting added:
Fianlly home, just awaiting final touches, including panel stain finish which I have yet to do:
I will be posting up more progress as the tank comes along, I have a friend helping me with filtration, thats the biggest thing for me, aside from being extremly busy with the daily grind/girlfriend!
Any comments, concerns, help, ideas is much appreciated!!!
