Stingray tank, project 6'X4'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope look fine for new rays just starting out. Give them some time. Thanks for the update. Finally got what I wanted.

Awesome tank. Anyone else think the rays look just a tad skinny? Or maybe mine are just obese.

I kind of thought they were a little skinny, I had the motoro (Steve) since he was 6 weeks old, got him to around 8-9" and was very fat lol, once I moved him to my LFS until I got my big tank set up, hes not as fat. There was other fish with him so I know he was not only competing with my female (Lily) but from other fish as well, I feed them raw shrimp once a day, until they wont eat anymore. Hopfully they will fatten up a little more.

Once my tank is complete (month or so) I will upload more pictures and a feeding video, Lily is so funny, I will drop a piece of shrimp in front of her eyes on her disc and she will balance it for a good solid minute trying to figure how to get it off to eat it, its hilarious, then she will go into a frenzy and go from cool, calm and collective, to excited, fast moving, and a little more aggressive lol.

@Pete:
I had $1500 down on my Wolf hybrid, he looked exactly how I wanted and I even paid the extra $300 for double blue eyes, so once he was born he opened his eyes and everything looked good. One week before his shipping date, the siller E-Mails me and tells me his eye turned dark so he had one brown and one blue. Although I thought it was very cute, it was not what I was looking/paid for, and I know there were buyers out there looking for a Bi-eyed male, so I released him back for purchase by someone else. I then had the pick of the litter of the next three litters from other breeders, and none of them came as close to what I was looking for as the bi-eyed male. Since I had paid in full for a pup that I let someone else purchase, I asked for a refund until something came out that caught my interest, just because I didn't want my $1,500 out in cyber space. Once I asked her for a refund, it got ugly, long story short, the online website (not sure if I can post who it is) I had to get a refund from paypal, as she was beating around the bush about giving me a refund. Anyways, a picture of him (I now kick myself for not getting this cute little sh*t lol) He was 55%husky and the rest timberwolf

Another pup after releasing above pup for another buyer to purchase that I was interested in, his black coat turned brown and eyes were bi-eyed as well.

Holy cow that was a cute pup! A regular Husky is work enough, I can't imagine how it would be living with one mixed with a wolf. Both my girls have double blue eyes, which somehow makes the idiots in the street ask if they're sisters. Uh no? One is a Husky. It has a tail and prick ears. The other is an Australian Shepherd - no tail and ears which fold over.

Wow, you've done a lot of work to that tank and stand, it looks good.. I like the back and bottom painted black.. The rays look good too, are those the ones Jesse had at PP in Everett ?? Oh yea i know that tank and stand well, i used to own it 3 years ago for my rays.. :) I miss that tank, but it wouldn't fit in my new house.. :(

Just an update here!

I have added a lid to this monster tank. Went out and bought some 1/2" thick Acrylic.

My main purpose was to keep the humidity down in the room/get my 48" T5 light to light the tank.
I've had many more projects around the house I've been working on taking my time and money to really get the finishing touches on this display.

Next will be a matching custom canopy to hide the lighting and lid.

I would like to add before I add the pictures, the light I bought I was not expecting anything fancy, but its AWESOME. It REALLY brings out the rays color, and it looks sweet at night. The timer on it helps so I wont have to fuss switching it on and off everyday, now the fish can really have a routine.

Here are the pictures!

The lid consists of a solid sheet 65" long (two 2"X1.5" thick acrylic braces to help with the acrylic from warping along with a 12" panel on back with four piano style hinges for access to plumbing and rear area of tank.
The front consists of 3 access panels. A center 24" dual hinged access lid, with two more access lids on each side so the whole front can open up for access or just by panel.

I made the larger center access panel with two hinges (for more ridgity) so that if I ever have larger fish to remove or add, it can be done from there or the rear.

The pictures show the rear up, as I realize I need one more acrylic brace on it like I did for the center. Didn't realize this would bow until the lid went up, just didnt think that far I guess since the front has the front edge to rest on and the rear doesnt go all the way to the back, for plumbing room. So once I add the brace I can put the rear lid down, just want to keep it up to prevent bowing.

Thoughts and suggestions are always welcome!

Oh, I will be adding some acrylic handles for the access panels for ease of lifting and use.
