I am a firm believer, especially with rays and cichlids, in parasite control through a UV. So my new tank is a standard 750g.. Question is for the money I can either get 2 80W gamma UVs or 1 114W Aqua UV with wiper. i do believe aqua is a better UV but seems like more for the money with the gamma duo and its more wattage and they are still good UVs.. Which would you guys use... ?

wow, why so overkill? i know that with that wattage, a parasite would deff get fried if he went through the uv... but even if u had a breakout, what r the chances he would flow through the sterilizer?

I have never lost a ray out of 40 or so and always use UVs so i'm gonna stick to what I'm used to. And as for overkill, believe it or not either one of these set ups are under rated according to manufacturer

Better to overkill it than to underkill it right?

this is the quote off the aqua 25w:

"The Classic 25 Watt UV is the premium sterilizer for 500-1,200 gallons of fresh water or up to 150 gallons of salt water. UV safely eliminates algae bacteria and protozoa creating a healthy environment."

ive been doing research myself and so far im not sure why the high wattage for freshwater. am i missing something?

flow rate plays a key part in how well a UV works.... michael ive been doing alot of research into OZONE and it actually seems to be 10x better.... does all the same but also increases O2 in water...

do you have a link nic?

+1

link Nic? The increased 02 seems very interesting.....

I got one on order after this last bacteria problem. The only problem i'm having now is to figure out what to use for a ozone reactor. Any advice. No sump in the tank.
And for 750 gallons from what I understood is that may be undersized for bacteria
Sorry to hijack a bit pm if you could nic or start a new thread
