i just installed a 40w aqua-ultraviolet on my 600g and a 15w aquaultraviolet on my 450..did i undersize them? the 40w has a 500gph powerhead and 15w has a 150gph powerhead..i understand water has to have contact time or the uv is useless..

I put a 36w one on my 280 gallon and from what I've read this is what I'd need to kill bacteria and algae. For a 600 gallon your probably sized right for algae and not bacteria. I'm sure there is better people than me to chime in here.
Sorry that wasn't your question and you allrady knew that. I would go with the 2 80's in case of one failing. I allways like to go smaller and double up if possible.
well google has been my links.. so i cant offer you guys a hell of alot of input as im still trying to get everything myself... skynoch as for a reactor you could prob make one out of pvc i would contact chompers or dr joe they seem to be good with those things ill be doing the same myself to fill in some gaps...
