Speaking from experience it all depends on the plecos and in some cases the size of your rays. I have kept a 12-13" Common pleco with one set of rays, smallest being 10", for about 6 months and never once has he messed with the rays.
On the other hand I tried putting a L234 I think he is with some smaller rays, 8-10", and he immediately tried to kill them, not suck there slim coat, he aggressively rammed them. Needless to say he found himself in another tank real fast after that.
I also keep a 8" common pleco with another set of rays, 4-12", for about 2 months, no issues.
Plecos with rays does work sometimes, you just have to watch them closely and make sure they dont start sucking on the stingrays slim coat, and be prepared to yank them out of that tank quick if you see them doing it. All depends on the pleco, my best luck has been with the cheap common plecos.
