Stingrays banned in Ny

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
David, I flame NY because I've lived here for 26 years and I see what is slowly happening. As far as this law not the first time I've heard it. Thanks for the info tho. No hard feelings, chill man.

Just got off the phone and I'm guessing they are closed? The option I need leads me to a error message and the operator option leads me to a voicmail service. Ill try again tomorrow

Forums can be useful sometimes...the problem is sorting through the crap.
and....thanks, you proved my point to with your statement, about folks preferring to BS on the forum for 10 minutes rather than spend 1 minute on the phone with the phone number I already provided.
This tells me that some folks would rather BS and repeat rumors than find the real answer, which is kinda sad when you think about it, and is why I post less and less.
:(

Well like jay and notes I do not live in NYC anymore. So this ban doesn't really matter to me or effect me in any way. I get what your saying thou rumors spread faster then facts. when you hear rumors a lot by the time you hear the truth it's dismissed cause of the rumors that's been going around.

Who cares I live in London UK lol

You have some strange laws in the US when one state can do one thing and other states can't

I understand the hotter states like FL when fish can live in the wild if released

But NY can keep stingrays but NYC can't come on

t1 i think to put it in relevant terms it is for you more llike england and scotland where different laws exist such as the differences in the nhs etc.
and david i think t1 is agreeing with you in a roundabout sort of way lol

ok . what have we learned ? ....some people read between the lines and some people read the actual lines . .. also stingrays are legal in the places mentioned at the moment and until further notice ! . great. group hug :)

all is good and proceed with the pics :)

I have just spoken to US F&W based in L.I, who kindly did a bit of research for me.
As far as the inspectors there are aware there is no enforcement or any specific regulations in NY state or city about Pots.
There are NO issues at the NY area airports( except conforming to Brazilian quotas and CITES rules) . They are NOT restricted in the state of NY.
The city (NYC) does have nebulous laws about predatory animals that can harm humans, but again, as far as US F&W are concerned there is no enforcement.
They referred me to the D.E.C ( dept of environmental control) for the city

Phone # is 718 482 4900
someone else can do the rest of the leg work and report back.

So far this appears to be an urban myth

I called and there are a million choices I tried the operator and law enforcement line and no one picked up.

I called 311 and the said most farm, wild and exotic are illegal. Turtle with shells under 4 inches. He then said the text said some alligators, crocodiles and sea mammals might be prohibited depending on the situation. I am not sure.

Called NYPD informational hotline and the women didn't know what a stingray is (literally did not know what it was). She asked the person next to her and they didn't know.

I then called the police headquaters and the women told me to call the aquarium and asked why will they know about this. I then spoke to a supervisor put a complaint about the person and then she told me that I should call 311.

I then called the 101st precent and told them I have stingrays comming in the mail and just waited to make sure that it is all legal. He responded with "it's all good, no problem," then said thank you and bye. I felt it was more of a we don't care about you stingray leave us alone, but he did say that it was all good.

Hope this helps.

Your right but we don't have one rule for one city and another for another

So what if someone's house is right on the boarder line half his house is in NY the other in NYC

Sill rules

Why should one state have different rules to others you are all Americans it is the United States after all

Or could one state just say right we will let in Asian Arowana but you other states can't

It's to promote diversity. When America became a country countries were known as states. The United States is suppose to be a bunch of mini countries which form a united nation. The federal government should really have very little say in how each state conducts itself, but it doesn't work like that any more. For example the drinking age is suppose to be determined by the state. Every year the state pays the federal government money which is then given back to the states to maintain highways in the state. If a states drinking age is under 21 the federal government won't give them their money. It's kind of like extortion. Not to long ago diffrent states had diffrent drinking ages. Diffrent states also have diffrent laws for marriage, age of consent to have sex, education system, standards for gas, environmental standard, driving age and many others.

I don't know American law

Just that I feel a country should have the same law throw out
I don't know if its the same now as we see in old films when people rob a bank in one state then jump the state boarder with the lot then they are safe from the police that's crazy it's the same country

The issue of power, especially the great potential for a power struggle between the federal and the state governments, was extremely important to the America's founders. They deeply distrusted government power, and their goal was to prevent the growth of the type of government that the British had exercised over the colonies.
