Chicago
I live in Chicago and our water is extremely hard. Does anyone have any recomendations on how to keep the water soft? I have a 180 gallon and have always kept gars but have thought about switching to Stingrays. Doing a water change would be awfully hard if I had to buy reverse osmosis water every time. Any help would be appreciated

Don't do anything with the water. I used to live in Lincoln Park and kept rays in the city tap water. Just keep it consistent. Don't screw with the hardness, it can only lead to problems.

Keep up on your water changes and feed the heck out of them. They will be fine.

Im in Crystal Lake, IL. My water sucks balls lol. It come out of the tap at 7.5 and rises up to about 8.5 over night. Hardness is off the charts. Pretty much liquid rock.

Right now I have a small tiger ray doing very well. About 6 months ago I sold a pair of motoros that were showing signs of breeding behavior. Unfortionatly for my they had a pup three months later lol.

My point is, dont worry about it. Rays are much tougher then you would think once acclimated

The good ray places used to be.....

Living Sea....on Devon in Park Ridge

Aquatic World .......on Lincoln

Olde Town Aquarium.......on N. Wells

Grand Aquarium.......on W. Grand Ave

Scott's.......down in LaGrange

There are 1000 LFS in the greater Chicago area. All get a couple of nice rays in from time to time.

Colin

You could ask what they do at the LFS you get them from too.

Living sea has rays right now...last week when i was there they had about 8 or so.

Old town didnt have any but that was 2 weeks ago that I was there. seems that their favoring saltwater more now just like all the other stores.

Grand aquarium - Closed (used to live a 1/2 block away...was my childhood pet store lol)

Scotts in westchester is what I think you meant had a few small ones last time i was there.

Dont know about the others havent been to aquatic world in along time.

if you would like some stingrays. i will have some captive breed pups in a week or so. and i have a few motoros and some large retics . let me know if your lookin. i live in the elgin crystal lake area.

Thanks
Brad
