stingrays stopped feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
everything I could think of has been mentioned. I have always relied on salt and upping the temp a few. Best of luck to ya.

Sorry if this sounds pretty basic but maybe you could answer these questions so we could help you better.
What size tank are they in?
Do you use tap water or r/o water?
What do you use to treat your tap water if you use it?
What type and how much substrate do you have?
What do you use for filtering and airation?
Have you done any recent changes? eg. changed filter output direction, added more light,ect...
I still believe in salt but I'm not thinking that is going to solve much here yet. I would start with turning out the lights and covering the tank. Also maybe repoint your filter outlets so the water breaks the surface giving them more air exchange.

they are in a 7x4x2 foot tank but are currantly seperated from the other fish with a divider giving them 4x2x2 foot,i use tap water as the guy i bought them off said that was what he was useing and they have been fine for the two months ive had them untill now.i dont treat the water as i fill a large containor that has two large airstones in after every change then its in there for a week before i use it,i did have them on a thin layer of sand but have now removed most of this however there is still a small amount left that appears to now be sticking to the rays, for my filtration i have two bioforce 9000l pond filters that have three sponges and biomedia [looks like lava rock]i take it in turns cleaning them as i thought this would cause less upset to the tank and they get done once every 4weeks but to be honest theres never much if no dirt in them, for airation i use an aquaone o2 plus 8000 pond pump conected up to 4 large air bombs that gives the tank loads of surface movement and im not doing anything diffrent than when i first got the rays ill try leaving the lights off as ive not done this yet and i hope this info gives you some ideas to what im doing wrong thanks again to everyone for all your advice.

Everything in your setup and your maintenace looks good.I can't see any problems with anything your doing or what would be causing the problem. Maybe just try the lights out and covering the tank or most the tank to try and put less stress on the rays.
I'm still not ruling out stray current in the tank which the rays will twitch and shed thier slime coat but try the tank covering/lights out first.

tested for stray current ant theres none and they have been covered for 3 days now still not feeding and today the female is swimming around the top of the tank with her nose sticking out and when she does go down she is sitting right up on her rear fins constantly twitching and flicking looks like she is getting fincurl anyway i have treated with melafix but i think its just a matter of time now and i really dont know what else i can do.thankyou to everyone for all your help.

just thought id let anyone intrested know i lost the female yesterday she developed sores underneath about 3 days ago then fin curl its not all bad tho i have been treating with melafix for over a week now and the male has just eaten 3 prawns thats the first time he has eaten since i posted this thread so hopefully he will start to pick up with abit of luck.

Sorry to hear about the female but good news about the tough guy. My male leo was ill recently with a bacterial infection where he lost skin underneath, appetite and was pretty lazy. I treated with high temps, salt, lots of water changes and melafix for 14 days and he pulled through and is happier than ever. Good luck!
