A little back story first.... I was in Toronto the other day, visiting relatives and what not. And I went to see some asian aro's. To Dragon King in particular. I'll have pics from the store posted later tonight possibly......

Anyway, I was talking to the younger guy in the store, he spoke perfect english and was saying that when shipping something he has to label it with the exact name of the animal and ofcourse he had to have the proper permits and so on...... Obviously if he has to identify the fish he wont be able to ship an illegal fish to the states. Which made me think of my next question.

What if you were to have a Jardini breed with an Asian?!?! If I'm not mistaken, this would make it a whole new species and potentially available for shipment to the US..........

Now I know most peeps don't want a hybrid animal in most cases.... but they do breed different strains of asians together so why not a Jar and an Asian? It may be the only alternative that we'll ever have.

I'd love to hear everyones opinion of this hybrid and whether I'm wrong on the legalities of it or not.

I figured breeding would be difficult but I'd like to see someone try. I'm in North Phoenix around Bell and Cavecreek. Why do you ask?

Minus a few very rare instances, I don't know anybody breeding Asian arowana in countries that don't hover around the equator.

Perhaps one of the CITES registered sponsors will chime in on this, but I'm pretty sure there are very stringent guidelines around the breeding of Class 1 engangered species (i.e. considering one of the roles of these CITES registered farms is to increase the number of living species, crossing is probably not permitted).

that is not quite the same. A parrot is a hybrid species from different genus I believe. I could be wrong however.

A Jardini and an Asian aro are from the same Genus.
