Hey guys I recently scored a 55 gal for absolutely nothing, it's got black background already on it, but I might put one of those fake rock backgrounds on to take away the cornyness. Anyway I haven't really thought about what theme I want. But I would like some good ideas. I would like to with bigger fish, since this is the biggest tank I have yet to own, also if you know of any particularly mean or really rare or interesting fresh water fish, I would be willing to consider something like that. I was thinking about an African biotope with African butterflies, and maybe some type of fresh water African eel. Yes I know they may not be true eels, so please no un-needed education about that. Any ideas based on this criteria would be much appreciated.

Well I'm looking for something that looks menacing, like big showy teeth. Or if I go the butterfly route, what is a good African eel, are there any TRU freshwater African EEls?
how about a pickerel ? some species would be ok in a 55 or birchirs are really kool , some JD's , texas cichlids, you want something menacing looking with lots of personality that will fit in a 55 I know how bout a small shoal of exodens ? they don't look mean till it comes to feeding time .
Tire track eels get pretty good size but they don't have teeth ... that are menacing looking.
there are tons of options spend a few hours and go to a few different online fish shops and look at what they have and if you like it see if a 55 will be able to hold it for life or if you will have to upgrade the 55
