So there's a large possibility of me getting a 180, but I wanna know what my stocking would be looking like

the fish would be rehomed or upgraded to a larger tank when necessary if they grow too large i.e. cichla, aros, etc.

Things that must be included:
My current red Oscar
at least one silver aro (my mom loves them and is one of the reasons she's letting me get the tank)

Things that I like/ideas im looking at:
Geos
Polys
Cichla
Crenicichla
Yoyo/clown loaches
H. psittacus
Maybe one plec and or smaller catfish
etc.

Tank setup would be black background, sand substrate, driftwood, and floating plants
Filtration would probably be a sump, and a big canister/hob/etc.
Would also be on a constant drip system
Any suggestions are welcome

get some big sterbai cories, idk if they're popular around mfk's but they really do look pretty awesome, and an arowana always makes things look nice

they are pretty good looking, but too much of a choke hazard for the larger fish

florida gar, some natives. Thats what mine had, before I broke it.
ive never really seen any reasonably priced gar around me, just a ~13" lying on the bottom not moving for $129.99 and im not really going for natives

plus i heard most cichlids will piss off gar

My eventual goal later down the road is a 180 gallon, If it were me honestly I'd get a pair of ornate bichirs and an endlichiri to go with your oscar, I really want to get an ornate now it's just not feasible for my apartment and I'm not one of those people who can trade a fish in after it's grown out :'(

i know what you mean man, i say it now, but i dont know how i'll get myself to do it later on

You'll have to upgrade eventually if you want a silver, or rehome it after some time. It will last there for a couple years maybe.

I'd not use any polys, anything they can't eat they sometimes decide to maul anyway.
any species in particular i should stay away from? i was thinking sen, endli, ornate, and maybe del
