Stock Tank Shark Lagoon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was thinking about buying a stock tank so that i could make a lagoon out of it nothing special looking but something that can hold them until i had enough money to really spoof it up but for now i wanted to start out with the bare minimums filter and chiller (chiller will be a problem for money reasons ). the size tank I'm thinking of getting is 610 gallons so its only so many things that it cant hold but I've always been very fond of the banded hound shark I know this is very pricey about as much as the whole build would be if u include shipping . but I have heard that they are hardy sharks and are truly beautiful and unique I haven't ever had a shark before but i have handled things on the more difficult side( red tail barracuda) i got one and got him to eat in first try with no prior knowledge of very difficult fish. but now he has passed i live with my brother and i had him in a crowded tank so i said not to turn of the filter for oxygen reasons but he did anyways so 4 months of great care and 110$ went down the drain. So i know i am capable of handling bigger task and. Also we live in Houston TX so it gets hot and wanted to put it in garage but a chiller would be a definite for keeping temp to 70 when sometimes it reaches over 100 here but i was also wondering about putting a 50 gal sump in there. But i was just wondering if there is possibly anything that you can bring to my attention that i may have missed( not dealing with my prior experience of shark keeping pls lets stick to the script". and sorry for the year long read lol.
It's not that we don't want to support you, but you are doing something very unique.
I don't have any background experience to help.
I think it's a cool project, I hope you get it to work.
Where are you going to get the 610 gallon stock tank?

Thats a nice shark personaly i think it would be cheaper to buy a small above ground swimming pool and put it in the garage They come with filters and are pretty cheap maybe even find a used one and clean it out real good.
As for chilling the water you could use a refrigerator and coil water hoses inside.

I just have to say that your idea is cool and would love to see it come to fruition. I would also say that if money concerns are the first thing that comes to mind when planning to do 600+ gallons of salt water not to mention keeping a high tier of difficulty fish does not bode well. It has been said before that most of us don't keep fish we keep very pretty water. That couldn't hold more weight than when salt water is concerned. There are budget friendly resolutions to everything fish related but there are also un-budget friendly costs that are imperative to your sanity, well being of the fish, and relationships with friends and family. Many things come to mind that will need to be addressed. You live with your brother. Is he FULLY on board with your plans? Does your brother have a significant other? Are they on board? A tank of that size in a shared dwelling requires a certain level of community support. Your brother already made a mistake and killed one endeavor. What would happen if he meant to flip off a light and shut down the pumps to your new endeavor ending in another loss? Searching for info is fine and dandy. Google will be your best friend. Bringing a rough "that would be awesome" plan to life is an entire journey of its own whether it be a nano 5g or a monster 5,000g. Good luck!
