Stocking 120 gallon 48x24x24

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lemon tetra are a high body tetra, and should be fine. the ones at risk are short bodies like neon, cardinal, ect. rummy nose tetra are a short body, but they also get 2" so unless there is an adult sev or angel, they should be fine, and if they grow up with those fish, and you dont feed feeder fish they should never bother them. you could always have an ******* of a cichlid, so YMMV.

in any case, high bodied tetra, serpe, phantom, lemon, ect, should be fine.
I wouldn't say any of them tetras are deep bodied enough for and adult severum black phantoms just have tall fins I've seen 3-4cm black phantoms and serpaes picked off by 10cm angels and 12 cm red head geophagus the tetras I would say are 99% safe with angels and Severums are
Colombian blue tetras
Bleeding heart tetras
Buenos Aries tetras
Black widow tetras
Splashing tetras
Red eye tetras
African red eye tetras
Congo tetras
And silver dollars and related

Keep in mine that with 35-40 tetras, a school of corydoras, and 3-4 geophagus, you are already approaching heavily stocked. I would recommend Altums, as they will look great with the geophagus, and will be less bioload than big severums will be.
Sounds like it will be a beautiful tank
Thats a good point, ill probably roll with 20-25 lemon tetras, 10 corydoras.....

Agassizs dwarf cichlids (5-7cm)
Cockatoo dwarf cichlids (5-7cm)
Checkerboard cichlids (7-10cm)
Golden eyed dwarf cichlids (6-7.5cm)
Ram cichlids (6-7cm)
Keyhole cichlids (9-13cm)
Dwarf pike cichlids (7-9cm) I would be worried about small tetras, deep bodied tetras work well with them e.g
Colombian blue tetras, Bleeding heart tetras etc.
Festive cichlids (15-20cm) same as above
Angelfish (15cm+height) same above
Severums (24-30cm) will make your plants look like crap even anubias and java fern, and can get quite aggressive
Discus (15-20cm) prefer calm water flow

Thanks for that list of suggestions, I have always found Festae to be an attractive fish. Ill have to look further into it. As far as the Apistogramma I have had several species over the years in 10-40 gallon setups. I am actually doing another tank on the side for the wife that will be an Apistogramma biotope for the cacatoides. I feel like those in a 120 gallon tank would be a waste of the tank space. I think I am leaning back towards Angelfish at this point as main pieces.... Wont have to worry about them destroying plants, or eating the lemon tetras.

Discus are out of the question, honestly I just refuse to put up with the upkeep. People do 90% water changes daily.... That is insane to me. I won't do more than 40% weeekly.
