1 bichir.
7 silver dollars.
1 fire eel.

Thinking of adding 1 blue acara and/or a severum.

Most important is no fighting and healthy water parameters. Could I do that?

Should I consider anything else? Don't want to overstock but I am really good about changing water and like lots of life in the tank.

I’d change the fire eel for a smaller eel.
Also you need to give us a type of bichir instead of just “bichir”, bichir could mean several different types and it’s important that we know which one specifically you want when making decisions regarding your stocking.

I assume you mean normal spotted silver dollars? There are multiple types. Tiger silver dollars are lovely but will run you about $20 each.

My senegal bichirs, spotted silver dollars, and tiger silver dollars do well with my severum so there shouldn’t be anything to worry about if you did what I did.

Going back to the eel, a peacock eel grows to a small-ish size but I’m not sure how one would fare in this mix as I only had one for a brief period.

Should work I feel a fire eel after 1.5-2 years might outgrow the tank make sure you get the right sizes also so the fire eel isn't a snack.
You can add a severum as well just make sure sizes are compatible.

I appreciate your response. I already have a fire eel about 8 inches long so he's big enough to not be a snack. I know he may outgrow my tank so I am going to be monitoring water conditions closely. I'm glad that fire eel aside it seems okay. I don't want to be overstocked.

I dont think a fire eel would be in danger from either a blue acara or severum unless it was tiny.

Agree that the fire eel could outgrow the tank down the road though. What kind of bichir?

I dont think it would be a problem to add an acara or severum though. They are community friendly, versatile fish.

It's an ornate bichir, about 14 inches now. Probably will outgrow the tank too. I'm just hoping to get a year or so out of the 125 and by then hoping to have a bigger tank set up. I have a new room being finished with a concrete floor so I can go super big on the tank once that room is finished.

I actually am going to have to find a larger severum and acara, babies would get eaten.

You can get a 3-4inch one and it will be fine.
Make sure if you have hob to cover it and have tight lids fire eels tend to jump out of tank and climb into hob filters.

Thank you! I have heard that. It would be tragic to lose the fire eel. I love the little guy. That's how I lost an arowana once. :(
