I acquired a 10" Tiger Oscar, so I'm building a 5x2x2 for it.
the tank will have a sump as filtration, next step of my build. I also have a eheim pro3e 2078 which I will soon start on the current tank holding the oscar to start seeding it, then transfer to the new tank at least till the sump filtration gets established.
While setting up the tank I'm now researching to form my stocking plan.

How would you stock this tank, considering it will have an adult Oscar?
and would you introduce the oscar after the other tank mates, before or at the same time?

imo (from a seasoned fish keeper who has gone through 90% of the commonly available cichlids) oscars are one of the greatest fish you can keep, perfect elliptical shape, great personalitys, predatory, and colourful...

anyway i would do a suncat and a pair of pleco that stay smaller maybe bristlenose then 4-6 silver dollars. good luck!-)

Any particular fish your leaning into?

Nice tank size, lots and lots of options there :)

I'm really not sure, and I guess availability will be a factor also.
i like the idea of a school, possible silver dollars (seems regularly recommended with an Oscar), or convicts, but open to other suggestions, I do like sharks but I'm not sure they would suit
may be a bottom dweller like a cat or pleco of some sort. The substrate will be pool filter sand, and I read that plecos crap a lot so not sure yet.
I may also have one other species with a difference, either striking colour or shape, I really like the look of arowana fish, but I feel they grow too big for my tank unfortunately.

so in short, the plan is to have
The Oscar and one other mid to top water column fish
A bottom feeder
A school of 5-7, or even 2 schooling species instead of another top feeder

could do three clown loaches on the bottom, they are full of character, although the get big eventually we are talking 8yrs old to get 7-8 inch cmiiw?

an ornate pimelodus would be a nice accent too the others they hand feed, top out around 12 inch and are pretty common now.

+1 clown loaches, if you can get a small shoal that won't be devoured by your oscar they would make for an excellent fish for the lower levels of your tank, and offset your O nicely
